[The citrus smell of the bergamot blend Edelgard loves so deeply fills her lungs. Edelgard takes a deep breath as she seats herself. There are already pastries sitting out, and — oh, is that a sweet bun trio? A snack from her childhood. She wonders if Byleth caught her enjoying them once. After all, they did invite her here.
Edelgard arrived particularly early just because it's only polite! But the second guest of this tea time is not who she expects. When Dimitri comes into view her expression stays as stony flat as ever, but her eyes grow just a bit wide. A habit he'll probably remember from when they were children. It's something she learned to do because reacting honestly was... an unwelcome trait Arundel 'convinced' out of her.]
...The professor did not tell me you would be accompanying us.
[ Unlike Edelgard, Dimitri's surprise most certainly shows when he arrives to an unexpected guest, though it softens a moment later. It may not have been part of the plan -- or was it? could the professor be so cunning? -- but if he's going to be honest with himself... well, he can't really say he minds it. ]
Likewise. I was under the impression it was going to be only the two of us, the Professor and I.
[ There's an awkward beat after he pulls up his chair, as though considering his options. There may be more than enough treats on display, but as far as he can see, only a pair of teacup sets have been brought out. Has the table been set for two...? ]
Would you mind if I joined you?
[ He may be fine with her company, but that doesn't mean she reciprocates it. ]
[Edelgard is quick on the uptake. They both thought they were meeting the professor, the table is only set for two. And those sweet buns... there's not denying it, but she doesn't have it in her to begrudge Byleth.]
Not particularly, no. After all... you were invited.
[She's just glad she added all the sugar she wanted to her tea before he arrived so he cannot judge her.]
